It takes 20 minutes to drive the 8 km down the mountain. And while the switchbacks create the most neighbor-thigh-clutching (right, Allie?), I counted 41 other substantial curves on that same road - our road - the one we have to travel to get pretty much anywhere.

Driving in Switzerland
Depending on who's counting, there are 8-10 hairpin switchbacks from the base of the mountain up to our village. These aren't the friendly Virginia curves I grew up on; easy, one-handed bends that never threaten nausea. Nope, our Swiss mountain roads are full of complete changes of direction. Roller-coaster force is felt at more than one point in the journey. Imagine driving along the closed end of a giant bobby pin, only to find that another one lay just ahead...and another!

i visit here, reading about you and your family, and enjoy seeing how you've embraced swiss life. i know the roller coaster has gone beyond the roads, but what an amazing adventure! know that you are thought of often and prayed for. -jen
